I travel quite a lot for my job and so regularly end up having my dinner by myself in cafes. I often take a book or magazine with me to help pass the time. Recently, I was in WASHINGTON DC where I ate at MON Cherie Cafe and I read a really interesting piece on bamboo clothes. I did not realise you are able to make fabric out of bamboo.
Bamboo has some amazing qualities. For example, bamboo fabric is softer than organic cotton. Apparently it is antibacterial and good for you if you suffer from allergies. That is a fantastic quality to have in a fabric. Bamboo clothing is highly absorbent making it a good possibility for gym clothes or also as bamboo towels. I was intrigued by these claims so I had to find out for myself. I went online and purchased some basic items of clothing.
I should say I was pretty happy with what I bought. The fabric really is soft, kind of like silk. It was almost dry when I removed it from the washing machine which I found to be amazing. The other thing I noticed is that it did not necessarily require ironing. I am not sure if all bamboo clothing is like that but it is what I look for as I hate doing ironing.
After a little more research I found some more amazing details on bamboo. It is almost always organic. It grows extremely fast which means it does not need any fertilisers and they do not use pesticides either. Also bamboo needs little water during the time it grows meaning they can survive droughts.
I try to make eco-friendly choices whenever I can. Bamboo is organic, renewable, and sustainable so for me it is the number one choice for t-shirts and other products such as towels, underwear, curtains, and baby clothes.
You can find some information on bamboo here and good points about organic farming and why to buy organic products.
