I travel a lot for my studies and so regularly end up eating by myself in local restaurants. I like to take a book or magazine with me to make me feel less alone. Recently, I was in WASHINGTON DC where I ate at Guards Restaurant and I came across an interesting cover story about bamboo clothes. I did not realise you could make clothing out of bamboo.

Bamboo has some great qualities. It turns out bamboo fabric and clothing is softer than most cotton. Apparently it is antibacterial and hypo-allergenic. That is an excellent quality to have in clothing. Bamboo clothing is very absorbent so it is a excellent possibility for gym gear or even as bamboo towels. I was fascinated by what I had discovered so I had to find out if it was true. I went online and got some items of clothing.

I must admit I was very impressed. The fabric absolutely is soft, not unlike silk. It was pretty much dry after I took it from the washing machine which I thought was amazing. Another thing I noticed is that it did not necessarily require ironing. I do not know if all bamboo clothes are like that but it is something I look for as I can not stand ironing.

After a little more research I discovered some more interesting facts about bamboo. It is almost always organic. It grows incredibly quickly which means it does not require fertilisers and they do not use pesticides either. As well as that, bamboo uses little water during the growth period which means they can survive droughts.

I attempt to make eco friendly choices whenever I do my shopping. Bamboo is organic, renewable, and sustainable so for me it is the number one choice for clothing and other products such as robes, blankets, curtains, and baby clothes.

You can find plenty of articles on bamboo here and good information about organic farming and why to buy organic products.
