I move around a lot for my work and so often end up having dinner alone in local restaurants. I usually take a novel or magazine with me to help pass the time. Recently, I was in STEUBEN ME where I ate at Kitchen Garden and I read a really interesting cover story to do with bamboo. I had no idea you could make fabric out of bamboo.
Bamboo has some amazing qualities. It turns out bamboo fabric and clothing is softer than regular cotton. Apparently it is antibacterial and hypo-allergenic. That is a great quality to have in clothing. Bamboo clothing is highly absorbent making it a great choice for gym clothes or possibly as bamboo towels. I was interested by these claims so I had to find out if it was true. I searched online and got a couple items of clothing.
I must tell you I was very happy with what I bought. The fabric absolutely is soft, not unlike silk. It was pretty much dry after I took it from the washing machine which I found to be incredible. The other thing I noticed is that it did not really require ironing. I I am unaware if all bamboo fabric is like that but it is something I look for as I hate doing ironing.
After a little more research I discovered some other amazing details on bamboo. It is almost always organic. It grows incredibly rapidly which means it does not need fertilisers and they do not use pesticides either. Plus bamboo needs very little water during the time it grows so they can survive droughts.
I do my best to make eco friendly choices whenever I go shopping. Bamboo is organic, renewable, and sustainable so it is my number one choice for t-shirts and other products such as robes, blankets, curtains, and baby clothes.
You can find plenty of articles on bamboo here and good information about organic farming and the benefits of organic products.
