I travel a lot for my studies and so often end up having my dinner by myself in local restaurants. I often take a book or magazine with me to help pass the time. Recently, I was in SAVANNAH GA where I ate at Krispy Chic - No 3 and I came across a really interesting cover story on bamboo. I had no idea you could make clothing out of bamboo.
Bamboo has some great qualities. It turns out bamboo clothing is softer than organic cotton. They say it is antibacterial and hypoallergenic. That is an excellent quality to have in a fabric. Bamboo clothing is highly absorbent making it a great possibility for gym gear or even as bamboo towels. I was intrigued by what I had discovered so I had to find out if it was true. I looked online and got a couple items of clothing.
I have to tell you I was pretty happy with what I bought. The fabric really is soft, not unlike silk. It was pretty much dry when I removed it from the washing machine which I think is incredible. I also noticed is that it did not particularly need ironing. I I am unaware if all bamboo clothes are like that but it is what I look for as I can not stand ironing.
After a bit more research I found some other incredible details on bamboo. It is almost always organic. It grows incredibly quickly which means it does not require fertilisers and they do not need pesticides either. Also bamboo requires very little water during the growing period which means they can survive droughts.
I try to make environmentally friendly choices whenever I do my shopping. Bamboo is organic, renewable, and sustainable so for me it is the number one choice for clothing and other products such as robes, underwear, curtains, and baby clothes.
You can find some details on bamboo here and good points about organic farming and why to buy organic products.
