I travel quite a lot for my job and so usually end up having dinner all alone in cafes. I like to take a novel or magazine with me to make me feel less alone. Last week, I was in OURAY CO where I ate at Ouray Coffee House and I came across a new piece about bamboo. I had no idea you could make fabric out of bamboo.
Bamboo has some great qualities. For example, bamboo fabric and clothing is softer than most cotton. Apparently it is antibacterial and good for you if you suffer from allergies. That is a fantastic quality to have in clothing. Bamboo clothing is highly absorbent which means it is a excellent choice for gym wear or even as bamboo towels. I was intrigued by these claims so I had to find out for myself. I looked online and got a couple basic items of clothing.
I have to tell you I was extremely impressed. The fabric really is soft, not unlike silk. It was pretty much dry when I took it from the washing machine which I found to be amazing. The other thing I noticed is that it did not particularly need ironing. I do not know if all bamboo clothing is like that but it is a quality I look for as I hate doing ironing.
You can find the latest bamboo clothes here or there are many organic clothes stores where you can buy organic cotton clothes as well bamboo sheets.
After a bit more research I discovered some more interesting pieces of information on bamboo. It is almost always organic. It grows extremely fast which means it does not require fertilisers and they do not require pesticides either. Plus bamboo requires only a small amount of water during the growing period so they can survive droughts.
I try to make environmentally friendly choices whenever I can. Bamboo is organic, renewable, and sustainable making it my number one choice for clothes and other products such as robes, socks, rugs, and baby clothes.
You can find more details on bamboo here and good info about organic farming and how to choose organic produce.
