I travel quite a lot for my studies and so usually end up having dinner by myself in local restaurants. I often take a book or magazine with me to prevent boredom. Last week, I was in MONTICELLO KY where I ate at Dairy Queen of Monticello and I read an interesting piece on bamboo clothing. I did not know you are able to make clothes out of bamboo.
Bamboo has some amazing qualities. It turns out bamboo fabric and clothing is softer than regular cotton. They also say it is antibacterial and hypo-allergenic. That is a fantastic quality to have in clothes. Bamboo clothing is very absorbent which means it is a good choice for gym wear or possibly as bamboo towels. I was interested by what I had discovered so I had to find out if it was true. I searched online and purchased a couple basic items of clothing.
I should tell you I was extremely impressed with the quality. The fabric really is soft, kind of like silk. It was close to being dry after I took it out of the washing machine which I found to be incredible. Another thing I noticed is that it did not particularly need ironing. I do not know if all bamboo clothing is like that but it is a quality I look for as I can not stand ironing.
After a little more research I found some other amazing facts about bamboo. It is almost always organic. It grows incredibly fast which means it does not need fertilisers and they do not require pesticides either. Also bamboo needs only a small amount of water during the growing period meaning they can survive droughts.
I attempt to make environmentally friendly choices whenever I can. Bamboo is organic, renewable, and sustainable so for me it is the number one choice for clothing and other products such as sheets, blankets, throws, and baby clothes.
You can find some information on bamboo here and good information about organic farming and how to choose organic produce.
