I move around a lot for my job and so usually end up eating all alone in cafes. I like to take a novel or magazine with me to make me feel less alone. The other day, I was in MIAMI BEACH FL where I ate at Senor Frogs Miami Beach and I came across a really interesting cover story on bamboo. I had no idea you can make fabric out of bamboo.
Bamboo has some great qualities. For example, bamboo clothing is softer than most cotton. Apparently it is antibacterial and hypoallergenic. That is a great quality to have in clothes. Bamboo clothing is highly absorbent so it is a great possibility for gym wear or even as bamboo towels. I was fascinated by these claims so I had to find out for myself. I looked online and got a couple basic items of clothing.
I should say I was very impressed. The fabric definitely is soft, not unlike silk. It was close to being dry as soon as I removed it from the washing machine which I found to be great. The other thing I noticed is that it did not necessarily need much ironing. I am not sure if all bamboo clothes are like that but it is a quality I look for as I can not stand ironing.
After a little more research I found some more interesting facts on bamboo. It is generally organic. It grows extremely quickly which means it does not require fertilisers and they do not need pesticides either. Also bamboo uses only a small amount of water during the growth period which means they can survive droughts.
I attempt to make environmentally friendly choices whenever I do my shopping. Bamboo is organic, renewable, and sustainable so it is my number one choice for clothing and other products such as sheets, socks, curtains, and baby clothes.
You can find plenty of articles on bamboo here and good points about organic farming and how to choose organic produce.
