I travel a lot for my studies and so usually end up having my dinner all alone in restaurants. I often take a book or magazine with me to prevent boredom. The other day, I was in MATTHEWS NC where I ate at Tsing Tao Chinese Restaurant and I saw an interesting cover story on bamboo. I had no idea you can make clothing out of bamboo.
Bamboo has some fantastic qualities. For example, bamboo fabric and clothing is softer than most cotton. They say it is antibacterial and hypo-allergenic. That is an excellent quality to have in clothing. Bamboo clothing is highly absorbent making it a good option for gym wear or possibly as bamboo towels. I was interested by these claims so I had to find out if this was really the case. I went online and bought a couple pieces of clothing.
I have to say I was extremely happy with what I bought. The fabric really is soft, kind of like silk. It was close to being dry after I removed it from the washing machine which I found to be great. I also noticed is that it did not necessarily need ironing. I am not sure if all bamboo clothing is like that but it is something I look for as I hate ironing.
After a little more research I discovered some more incredible details about bamboo. It is generally organic. It grows incredibly quickly which means it does not need fertilisers and they do not require pesticides either. As well as that, bamboo requires only a small amount of water during the time it grows meaning they can survive droughts.
I try to make eco-friendly choices whenever I go shopping. Bamboo is organic, renewable, and sustainable so for me it is the number one choice for clothing and other products such as robes, blankets, throws, and baby clothes.
You can find more information on bamboo here and good points about organic farming and how to choose organic produce.
