I travel a lot for my job and so regularly end up having dinner by myself in restaurants. I like to take a book or magazine with me to help pass the time. Last week, I was in LANSING MI where I ate at Capital City Delicatessen & Catering and I read an interesting article about bamboo. I had no idea you can make clothes out of bamboo.
Bamboo has some fantastic qualities. For example, bamboo clothing is softer than most cotton. Apparently it is antibacterial and hypo-allergenic. That is a great quality to have in a fabric. Bamboo clothing is highly absorbent which means it is a good choice for gym wear or even as bamboo towels. I was fascinated by what I had discovered so I had to find out for myself. I searched online and bought some pieces of clothing.
I should tell you I was pretty impressed. The fabric absolutely is soft, not unlike silk. It was almost dry after I took it out of the washing machine which I found to be incredible. I also noticed is that it did not really require ironing. I I am unaware if all bamboo fabric is like that but it is something I look for as I can not stand ironing.
After a bit more research I found out some more interesting facts about bamboo. It is generally organic. It grows extremely rapidly which means it does not need fertilisers and they do not use pesticides either. Also bamboo requires only a small amount of water during the time it grows so they can survive droughts.
I do my best to make environmentally friendly choices whenever I can. Bamboo is organic, renewable, and sustainable making it my number one choice for t-shirts and other products such as robes, blankets, rugs, and baby clothes.
You can find some articles on bamboo here and good information about organic farming and the benefits of organic products.
