I travel a lot for my work and so regularly end up having my dinner all alone in restaurants. I like to take a good book or magazine with me to make me feel less alone. Last week, I was in FREDERIC WI where I ate at Circle C Hot Stuff Pizza and I read a really interesting piece on bamboo clothing. I did not know you could make clothing out of bamboo.
Bamboo has some fantastic qualities. It turns out bamboo fabric and clothing is softer than most cotton. They say it is antibacterial and hypo-allergenic. That is a fantastic quality to have in a fabric. Bamboo clothing is extremely absorbent which means it is a good option for gym gear or even as bamboo towels. I was interested by what I had discovered so I had to find out if it was true. I searched online and purchased a couple items of clothing.
I have to tell you I was extremely impressed. The fabric absolutely is soft, not unlike silk. It was close to being dry after I removed it from the washing machine which I think is great. I also noticed is that it did not really need much ironing. I do not know if all bamboo clothes are like that but it is something I look for as I can not stand ironing.
After a little more research I found some more interesting facts about bamboo. It is almost always organic. It grows incredibly fast which means it does not need any fertilisers and they do not use pesticides either. Plus bamboo uses little water during the growing period so they can survive droughts.
I try to make environmentally friendly choices whenever I go shopping. Bamboo is organic, renewable, and sustainable so for me it is the number one choice for t-shirts and other products such as towels, socks, throws, and baby clothes.
You can find more articles on bamboo here and good information about organic farming and why to buy organic products.
