I move around a lot for my work and so usually end up having my dinner by myself in restaurants. I often take a good book or magazine with me to help pass the time. Last week, I was in CHARLOTTE NC where I ate at Studio Plus - Charlotte/University and I saw a really interesting cover story about bamboo. I did not realise you can make fabric out of bamboo.
Bamboo has some fantastic qualities. I found out bamboo fabric and clothing is softer than organic cotton. Apparently it is antibacterial and hypoallergenic. That is an excellent quality to have in clothing. Bamboo clothing is highly absorbent making it a excellent option for gym clothes or possibly as bamboo towels. I was intrigued by this article so I had to find out for myself. I went online and purchased a few items of clothing.
I have to admit I was pretty impressed. The fabric definitely is soft, similar to silk. It was close to being dry as soon as I took it from the washing machine which I thought was incredible. I also noticed is that it did not really need ironing. I I am unaware if all bamboo clothes are like that but it is a quality I look for as I hate doing ironing.
After a little more research I discovered some more incredible facts on bamboo. It is generally organic. It grows very fast which means it does not need fertilisers and they do not require pesticides either. Plus bamboo needs little water during the growth period so they can survive droughts.
I try to make environmentally friendly choices whenever I go shopping. Bamboo is organic, renewable, and sustainable so it is my number one choice for clothing and other products such as sheets, socks, throws, and baby clothes.
You can find some information on bamboo here and good points about organic farming and how to choose organic produce.
