I move around a lot for my work and so regularly end up having dinner alone in restaurants. I like to take a novel or magazine with me to help pass the time. The other day, I was in BAKERSFIELD CA where I ate at Maitias Basque Cafe and I came across a really interesting article about bamboo clothes. I did not know you could make fabric out of bamboo.
Bamboo has some amazing qualities. It turns out bamboo fabric is softer than organic cotton. They say it is antibacterial and hypo-allergenic. That is an excellent quality to have in a fabric. Bamboo clothing is extremely absorbent which means it is a good option for gym wear or even as bamboo towels. I was interested by what I had discovered so I had to find out if this was really the case. I looked online and got a few items of clothing.
I must admit I was very impressed with the quality. The fabric definitely is soft, kind of like silk. It was close to being dry as soon as I took it out of the washing machine which I thought was great. Another thing I noticed is that it did not particularly require ironing. I am not sure if all bamboo clothing is like that but it is what I look for as I can not stand ironing.
After a bit more research I found out some other interesting facts to do with bamboo. It is almost always organic. It grows incredibly quickly which means it does not need any fertilisers and they do not need pesticides either. Also bamboo uses little water during the time it grows so they can survive droughts.
I try to make environmentally friendly choices whenever I do my shopping. Bamboo is organic, renewable, and sustainable so it is my number one choice for t-shirts and other products such as sheets, socks, throws, and baby clothes.
You can find some information on bamboo here and good information about organic farming and the benefits of organic products.
